An attractive deciduous large shrub or small tree, the Medlar provides dense growth along most of its trunk.

White flowers beginning in late spring; red Autumn growth.

The round, orange fruit is edible once ripened by frost (unlikely in Australia), or time (in proper storage), and tastes like apple sauce.

The fruit of the Dutch Medlar is more palatable when eaten straight from the tree.
